A nomadic siren returns to a world in crisis in human form. In her search for connection with other merfolk, she is confronted with the complex tensions between mythology and postmodern reality. Her human body feels foreign, and breathing on land becomes increasingly difficult. Questioning conventional notions of biography, identity, and belonging, “UNA”—a restless soul—wanders through the U.S. while increasingly confronted by her rebellious body, which ultimately strives to become more-than-human. SIRENS CALL is a genre-bending hybrid of science fiction, road movie, and documentary about a subculture, using fantastical imagery to explore collective trauma, body politics, and ongoing transition.
