In this gripping drama, an undocumented Filipino immigrant living in constant fear of deportation works as a caregiver for a Russian-Jewish grandmother in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. When the American she secretly pays for a sham marriage to get a green card backs out, she gets involved in a relationship with a slaughterhouse worker who doesn't know she's transgender.

LINGUA FRANCA is the third film by Filipino director Isabel Sandoval. The film celebrated its world premiere at the 2019 Venice International Film Festival.
