Lilia, who lives in Paris, travels to her native Tunisia to bury her uncle Daly. She is accompanied by her partner Alice, who is not staying in the Tunisian family home but in a nearby hotel.
Even Lilia's mother is unaware of her daughter's lesbian relationship, which would not only bring shame on her family, but is also a punishable offense in Tunisia. When Lilia learns during the funeral service, which lasts several days, that her uncle has died under mysterious circumstances, she begins to investigate for herself. Tired of being humiliated by the family's game of hide-and-seek, she delves deeper and deeper into Tunisia's queer subculture and thus into a web of secrets that encompasses not only her family, but society as a whole. The ghosts of the past guide her in a quiet voice.
A poignant and elegantly staged family drama about identity, family and the destructive power of the unspoken: In MIT LEISER STIMME, Tunisian-French director Leyla Bouzid tells with gentle power how the past can haunt the present and thus show a new path for the future.
