What scientists, politicians and activists have been predicting for decades has come true: Humanity is on the verge of perishing due to a global food shortage. The only hope for the world's population is a project by a resourceful scientist, funded by the US government, which makes use of the theory of "wormholes". The plan is to launch an expedition to another star system where a habitable planet, raw materials and, above all, life are suspected. The scientist Cooper and the astronaut Brand form the crew that embarks on a journey into the unknown, because wormholes are virtually unexplored and no one can say for sure where they will end up on the other side. It is also uncertain if and when they will ever find their way back to Earth. In any case, Cooper's daughter Murph is waiting on the blue planet. As a little girl, she sees the shuttle fly away with her father...
