Paris, 2014. Sound engineer and DJ Céline is about to become a mother—but it’s her wife, Nadia, who’s pregnant. While Nadia works at an emergency dental clinic, battling nausea and shortness of breath, Céline practices taking care of babies with a colleague’s children. Is this chaos about to become her new normal? Despite “marriage for all,” Céline must prove to the government—through 15 personal letters from friends and family—that she is up to the task—and at the same time make peace with her mother, who has always gone her own way. Director Alice Douard approaches her characters with great empathy. Inspired by her own experiences, Douard presents an outstanding debut film about love and parenthood, the likes of which French cinema has never seen before.
