Verleih uns Frieden – A-cappella-Konzert mit dem Thomanerchor Leipzig
In the organizer's words:
St. Thomas Choir Leipzig
Musical direction: Thomaskantor Andreas Reize
Organ: St. Thomas organist Johannes Lang
Violoncello: Anna Reisener
Double bass: Frithjof-Martin Grabner
The Thomanerchor Leipzig looks back on a history of over 800 years. Composers from all eras have written works for the famous choir. The motets by Johann Sebastian Bach, the most famous St. Thomas cantor in its long history, are just as much a part of the core repertoire of the St. Thomas Choir as many choral works by other St. Thomas cantors. In this a cappella concert, the St. Thomas Boys Cho ir presents a cross-section of choral music from all eras with works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Heinrich Schütz, Johann Walter and others.
Program:
Orlando di Lasso (1532-1594): Deus in adiutorium meum intende (Psalm 70, Florilegium Portense I); Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672): Aus der Tiefe, ruf ich, Herr zu Dir (Psalm 131 from: Psalms of David, SWV 25); Johann Walter (1496-1570): Blessed is he who walks not in the counsel of the wicked (Psalm 1); Heinrich Schütz: How lovely are thy dwellings (Psalm 84 from: Psalms of David, SWV 29); Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847): Mitten wir im Leben sind (after: Media vita in morte sumsu, verses 2 to 3 by Martin Luther); organ interlude; Johannes Brahms (1833-1897): Warum ist das Licht gegeben den Mühseligen (Job 3, 20-26; 7, 16-19); and other works by Walter, Schütz, Hassler, Biller and Bach
