strandír
In the organizer's words:
JazzToday Special
strandír
is an experimental quartet that creates dreamy and multi-layered soundscapes. The ensemble consists of Tumi Torfason and Daníel Helgason from Reykjavík, Tobias Link from Berlin, and Stefan Vidal-Schneider from Aarhus.
The name strandír comes from Icelandic and describes the rugged beauty of Iceland’s coasts and beaches—their shifting colors and textures, as well as the unpredictable weather that constantly reshapes the landscape. This phenomenon of an ever-changing landscape is a major source of inspiration for the quartet’s music.
Using electronic sounds, acoustic instruments, and intuitive interplay, they create atmospheric soundscapes that feel organic and remain in constant motion.
Lineup:
Tumi Torfason – trumpet and electronics
Daníel Helgason – guitar and electronics
Tobias Link – trombone and electronics
Stefan Vidal-Schneider – drums, electronics
