Muhammet Ali Baş & The Cousin

#SigmaWho? #BroCodeWhat? #CriticalMasculinity

Alpha, Beta, Sigma—Top and Bottom G’s: we know the alphabet of masculinity. These letters are all over social media, presenting images of masculinity that categorize men as strong, weak, or lone wolves. The so-called “Manosphere” is flooding the internet with ignorance, misogyny, and misinformation. Sorry, bro, we can’t keep going like this!

In this writing session, we’ll deconstruct toxic masculinity—through conversations, exchanging ideas, and short writing exercises. We’ll rearrange the alphabet, expand it to include other models of masculinity, and take a critical look at our own privileges and blind spots.

It’s a man’s wor(l)d!? “One man, one word” is our motto! We’ll discuss, take notes, and write about how we, as men, can take action against misogyny, and we’ll try to make sense of this jumble of letters through satire and literature.

The workshop will be conducted in German. The workshop facilitator also speaks Turkish, Persian, the dialects of Vorarlberg and Upper Austria, and English, and can assist you with questions in these languages.

About the workshop leader:
Muhammet Ali Baş studied language arts and exhibition theory and practice at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. He works as a curator and cultural mediator at the intersection of literature, museums, and community projects—most recently for the Weltmuseum Wien and Tangente St. Pölten. As a language artist, he works across disciplines on topics such as language, memory, and forms of discrimination. Through various projects, he facilitates artistic and literary practices focused on empowerment and self-efficacy. In 2017, he was nominated for the Peter Turrini Playwright Prize, and in 2020, he received the State of Vorarlberg’s Art Promotion Award.

Der Kuseng (Kian Kaiser) was born in Tehran in 1989 and grew up in Upper Austria. After his first performances in front of his parents’ sofa and in the classroom, he took the comedy stage for the first time in 2023. Since then, he has performed at PCCC*, FM4, and the Kultursommer Wien. In 2025, he celebrated a sold-out debut at the Kulisse Wien with “Hoamatlond, Hoamatlond,” which received standing ovations and won the Cabaret Award in the Emerging Artist category that same year. In addition to cabaret, he writes for magazines, hosts shows, and blends humor with social commentary on stage.
