RAHEL
In the organizer's words:
All aboard! RAHEL makes music for the peculiar—linguistically sophisticated, quirky, and dazzling German lyrics, delivered in a voice that’s addictive. When RAHEL invites you to dance with her “dreampunk” and a playful seriousness on her lips, worries about the future and world-weariness take a brief nap, and queer utopias sparkle in the lowlands of everyday life. RAHEL is here to stay: Since the release of her first single “Tapp Tapp Tapp” in 2021 (#1 on the FM4 Charts), the Viennese artist has rapidly evolved from an “insider tip” to a staple when it comes to German-language indie music from Austria—as evidenced by top chart positions, reviews from publications such as Musikexpress and Tagesspiegel, spots on major Spotify indie playlists, numerous support shows for acts including Die Sterne, Juli, and My Ugly Clementine, as well as performances at Vienna’s Donauinselfest, the Reeperbahn Festival, and Dockville Festival.
In RAHEL’s musical universe, New Wave guitars coexist peacefully alongside NDW synths, and dream-pop anthems sit alongside rebellious rock songs. The songs are created in close collaboration with producer and multi-instrumentalist Raphael Krenn. In March 2023, RAHEL released her second EP, “Ein sehr schöner Witz” (Radio International), followed in July by “Volare” (Krokant) featuring her German poetry collaborator Resi Reiner—the ultimate summer dream collaboration.
Disillusioned by adult life and the world’s dullness, RAHEL sets out with the catchy Kickstarter track “schaffner” to fulfill her soul’s longings. The journey itself becomes the destination; and even if RAHEL never arrives, she still gets her chance to shine. Her debut album “miniano” was released on March 8, 2024. With it, she takes us on a journey to a magical place where anything is possible. It’s worth coming along and staying, even if you get tired sometimes: “Do you see now how good it is? That you stayed after all.”—because: “What if it really does exist, this one incredibly beautiful, strange place where anything is possible?”
Next stop: Maybe the moon? Miniano? All we know is: the sky’s the limit. In the end, everything will have been possible. Hop on board!
