“exquisite return” is a 50-minute compilation that brings together three works by Maria Mercedes—“Ballade,” “again, expressing things maybe,” and “Shining Rose.” Dances that have never before been performed together on stage come together in a new constellation. Mystical figures of nature encounter the highway at sunset; cars drive by, the light shifts, and three wilting roses emerge as emotional anchors. The movements propel one another forward, sometimes seamlessly, sometimes with friction.

All three works are linked by the theme of friendship, both conceptually and methodologically. Friendship becomes a choreographic force, driven by a shared passion for dance. Extravagant costumes and recurring unison dance phrases create moments of shared intensity and weave the past and present into an unfolding landscape.
