For over 15 years, this songwriter—who comes from a family of musicians—has been performing throughout the German-speaking world—and is no longer just an insider’s tip. As early as 2011, she won first prize at the street music competition in Geldern. A year later, she made her first appearance on radio and television: in 2012, WDR featured her as one of North Rhine-Westphalia’s “best street musicians.”

Numerous awards followed, including the Hanns Seidel Foundation’s Sponsorship Award in 2014 and the Liederbestenliste Sponsorship Award in 2019. With her current third studio album, “Is’ halt so!,” Cynthia Nickschas was nominated in 2023 for the German Record Critics’ Award in the rock category. In addition to performing at renowned festivals such as Burg Herzberg, Bardentreffen, “Songs an einem Sommerabend,” and Tollwood Munich, she has also delivered memorable live performances in front of the cameras and microphones of WDR, BR, and Deutschlandfunk.

Together with her band, the “Friends”—which can number up to seven members—Cynthia Nickschas performs music in varying lineups that deliberately defies categorization. Influenced by jazz, blues, and rock—as well as by classic singer-songwriter traditions—she creates songs that range from loud to soft, carried by a powerful vocalist who, with her impressive stage presence, tells stories, moves audiences, and stirs their souls. Her lyrics are drawn from real life—cheeky, profound, and almost always with a little twist of hope.

Whether performing solo with her guitar or alongside her friends, Cynthia Nickschas knows how to transform any space, any venue. She takes her audience on a journey all her own through time and space, through melody, rhythm, and deeply personal worlds of thought. And when the concert ends, many go home with a touch of salt in their wounds—but at the same time with a bright ray of sunshine in their hearts.
