For centuries, music has been an integral part of the cultural heritage of all social classes. Whether it’s opera or a workers’ song—music can mobilize people to resist exploitation and oppression, serve as an archive of knowledge, become a point of reference that shapes identity, or be used as political propaganda.
The sixth installment of the “Kultur & Kampf” series at the Salon at Haus 73 in Hamburg is dedicated to the political song. Host Pajam Masoumi speaks with singer-songwriter Kai Degenhardt about his new album “Zwischen Tellerrand und Horizont,” about workers’ songs, and about the relationship between counterculture and music.
