German rap history meets the present: With “Kings of Rap,” the 2026 Giessen Cultural Summer presents a top-notch hip-hop open-air concert on the stage of the historic Schiffenberg monastery grounds. The highlight of the evening is Kool Savas—the undisputed King of Rap and one of the most influential figures in German-language hip-hop culture.

For over two decades, Kool Savas has been setting the standard: With radically honest battle rap, technical precision, and the ability to combine uncompromising lyrics with hooks that appeal to the masses, he has permanently transformed the genre. Five consecutive No. 1 albums, gold and platinum certifications in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, as well as countless legendary collaborations underscore his exceptional status. Savas also sets the bar high live—his high-energy shows have been considered the gold standard for years and have earned him a reputation as one of Europe’s best live MCs.

The second act of the evening is Vega, one of Hesse’s most distinctive rappers. The Frankfurt-based artist and founder of the label Freunde von Niemand is known for his uncompromising, emotionally charged rap and has been a fixture on the scene for years. His performances in the region are always something special—almost like a home game—and are met with a correspondingly enthusiastic response from the audience.

With Azad, another rap pioneer takes the stage. The Frankfurt native is considered a trailblazer of German street and battle rap and shares a long-standing artistic connection with Kool Savas. Joint tracks, performances, and mutual respect define this relationship, which adds an extra musical charge to the evening.

Rounding out the lineup is Yako OK, one of the scene’s most exciting newcomers. The up-and-coming rapper is mentored by Kool Savas and has recently drawn attention through collaborative projects—a clear sign that “Kings of Rap” not only celebrates legends but also shapes the future.
