Parties in Vienna - Celebrate in a city that can really do it

Vienna dances. This may sound like a cliché from the 19th century, but it is absolutely literal - and not just at an opera ball that you probably don't want to attend. Vienna's nightlife scene has developed into one of the most exciting in Europe over the last few decades, with a clubbing scene that covers everything from underground techno to exuberant pop parties and produces nights that you can still feel in your legs days later. The Danube Canal is something like the pulsating axis of Vienna's nightlife: Flex on the Augarten Bridge is an institution that has stubbornly remained at the top since the 90s. In a converted subway shaft right on the waterfront, techno, drum and bass and dub are regularly played here on a sound system that deserves its name. Anyone who knows Flex will understand why Vienna enjoys international respect when it comes to clubbing. Further along the canal, towards Spittelau, the Grelle Forelle awaits: a techno club with a photo ban, admission only from 21 and a dancefloor atmosphere that is exactly what the name promises - hot, intense and unforgettable. International DJs and local collectives share the decks here, which keeps the line-up at a consistently high level. Away from the Danube Canal, Vienna has a lot more to offer. In summer, open-air locations are transformed into dance floors in the open air: the Vienna Club Commission's "Free Spaces" series regularly plays electronic music at unusual locations in the city from the end of April to September and shows that a good party doesn't need a fixed venue. If you're more into mixed vibes, the O Club in the Albertina Passage right next to the State Opera hosts a dance floor night every Friday and Saturday with house, techno and 90s hits, all underground and with a mix of tourists and locals that somehow always works. Vienna also has a distinct culture of themed parties and queer events: regular queer club nights, drag shows and inclusive parties take place in various venues across the city and make it clear that Viennese nightlife also takes a social stance. For partygoers who want to start the evening in a more relaxed way before it really gets going, the density of bars and pubs around the Gürtel and in the 7th and 8th districts is a kind of natural pre-program: there are regular smaller club nights and DJ sets in an intimate setting, without queues and with a real neighborhood feel. The great thing about Vienna is that the party scene is not limited to one district, but covers the whole city - you just have to know where to look. Our calendar of events shows you which club nights, dance floor events and parties are coming up in Vienna. So: lace up your shoes, warm up your dancing legs and rausgegangen.
