The Kunsthalle Wien is the City of Vienna's central institution for international contemporary art and was founded in 1992. It has two locations - its headquarters in the Museumsquartier and another exhibition venue on Karlsplatz.

A special feature of the Kunsthalle Wien is that it does not have its own collection. Instead, it is dedicated to presenting current positions in contemporary art in solo and group exhibitions, with a focus on the experimental, the new and the risky.

In addition to exhibitions, the Kunsthalle Wien offers a diverse program of events and educational formats for a wide audience. Contemporary art positions are not only presented, but also discussed and reflected upon in their socio-political contexts. The Kunsthalle has thus established itself as one of Vienna's most vital cultural institutions.
