VÆB
In the organizer's words:
Music and the Eurovision Song Contest have been a part of brothers Hálfdán and Matthías Matthíasson’s lives since childhood. Their mother, Áslaug Helga Hálfdánardóttir, competed in the Icelandic national selection, Söngvakeppnin, back in 2008. Hálfdán’s musical talent became apparent early on when he won the Icelandic singing competition J’lastjarnan in 2015 and subsequently worked as a voice actor. In 2022, the brothers finally formed the duo VÆB. The name is composed of the Icelandic words for respect, serenity, and fun, perfectly capturing what the two stand for musically. That same year, they released their debut single, “Aron Can (Borðar kál),” as well as their first album, “Væb tékk.” After further releases, they achieved their breakthrough in Iceland in 2024 with “Bíómynd” and a fourth-place finish at Söngvakeppnin. In 2025, VÆB returned to the competition with “Róa,” won the title, and represented Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest in Basel.
With “Róa,” VÆB proved that their music resonates even beyond Iceland’s borders. Their modern blend of pop, hip-hop, and electronic music reached an international audience and made the duo well-known far beyond the local music scene. Hálfdán and Matthías embody a contemporary yet playful approach to music that truly lives up to their band’s name. Following their performance on the big ESC stage, their journey now takes them to the Austrian capital, where fans can see them live at Szene Wien on September 16, 2026.
