Stimmdimensionen – Werke von Homilius, Mendelssohn und Hosokawa
In the organizer's words:
Chamber Choir Stuttgart
Conductor: Frieder Bernius
The Kammerchor Stuttgart, one of Germany's most renowned choirs, builds tonal bridges between solo and larger choral ensembles in its program. Mendelssohn's "Te Deum" is an ideal work for this: it combines passages for smaller ensembles with impressive tutti pieces. The chor.com concert in the Mendelssohn city of Leipzig is the perfect setting to introduce this still little-known piece to a wider audience. Toshio Hosokawa's "Kuraki yori" can also be heard. The work for eight vocal soloists, based on a Japanese poem from the 10th century, once again demonstrates the tonal dimensions of a project ensemble such as the Kammerchor Stuttgart - and in its polyphony is also a resounding symbol of understanding.
Program:
Gottfried August Homilius (1714-1785): Five motets; Knut Nystedt (1915-2014): Immortal Bach for five four-part choirs; Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750): The Spirit helps our weakness up; Toshio Hosokawa (*1955): Kuraki yori (Out of Darkness); Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847): Te Deum for eight vocalists and eight-part choir (with organ accompaniment)
This concert will be recorded by Deutschlandfunk Kultur.
