Solar kühlt – auch ohne Stromnetz! Workshop

We love summer, we love the sun, and we’re promoting solar energy in Ehrenfeld.

Solar Refrigerator Workshop: How does a refrigerator work when powered by just two solar panels? And how can solar energy provide light, cooling, and energy storage—all without being connected to the power grid?

In this interactive workshop, led by Julian Krüger, we’ll explore the basics of solar technology using real, hands-on devices. A solar lantern illustrates how solar panels, energy storage, and electrical devices work together. Next, we’ll take a look inside a solar refrigerator powered solely by two solar panels and examine its integrated cold storage units. A solar cooling unit demonstrates how the same technology is used in larger cooling systems.

Using practical examples and videos from projects in Kenya, we’ll explore the spectrum from small off-grid applications to solar-powered cold storage facilities for agriculture and food supply.

And best of all: All participants will receive a cold drink—cooled with solar energy, of course!

No prior knowledge required—just curiosity.

Where: Ehrenfeld Community Center (BüzE)—outdoors in the Rondell if the weather is nice, or indoors at BüzE (corner room) if it rains
