A Magical Moment in Opera Singing
Piotr Beczała is one of the world’s most sought-after opera singers. On this evening, accompanied by the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Marco Boemi, he explores two distinct musical worlds: Richard Wagner’s mythical heroes and the flesh-and-blood characters of Italian verismo.
Lohengrin, Stolzing, and Siegmund
The first half of the concert features arias by Richard Wagner, including selections from *Lohengrin*. Beczała enjoyed great success in the title role last year in Bayreuth, having already stepped in at short notice for Roberto Alagna in 2018. On this evening, however, he shines not only as the noble knight Lohengrin but also with arias from *The Mastersingers of Nuremberg*, *Rienzi*, and *The Valkyrie*—works in which he is relatively rarely heard.
Cavaradossi and Andrea Chénier
Beczała’s preferred repertoire includes the great arias of verismo by Giacomo Puccini and Umberto Giordano. Last year, he made his role debut at the Salzburg Festival as Andrea Chénier, a tragic artist figure during the French Revolution. Last but not least, this magnificent tenor will shine this evening with the radiant high notes of Cavaradossi from *Tosca* in the famous arias “Recondita armonia” and “E lucevan le stelle”—a highlight of emotionally charged singing!
