MATERIAL GIRLS V (Ausstellung)
In the organizer's words:
A work of art derives its meaning and beauty primarily from a creative idea. But there is always another, purely material dimension as well. Every work of art consists of material with its own unique properties, texture, and density.
The artist collective “material girls” explores—collectively yet in their own individual ways—the aesthetic richness of material in art. Their works reveal to us the allure of the physical, which extends far into the realm of philosophy.
At the Overbeck Museum, Ulrike Brockmann, Claudia Christoffel, Christine Huizenga, Edeltraut Rath, Sabine Schellhorn, Ute Seifert, and Elfin Açar present works that directly reference the themes and motifs of the painter couple Fritz and Hermine Overbeck. This direct juxtaposition creates a stimulating dialogue between classical Worpswede painting and contemporary art.
