From the Past to the Future

In their a cappella arrangements of Baltic folk songs, the internationally sought-after Latvian Voices combine tradition with modern harmony and thus build a bridge between past and present. In dialog with German songs, they uncover many similarities in the respective folklore and impressively demonstrate how singing connects across borders and creates community. The program also creates connections between the Latvian Voices and the audience. The audience is invited to actively participate in this unique shared musical experience: by whispering, making wind and rain noises, humming along to familiar melodies and many other sound gestures.
