Led by contemporary visual artist Alexander Tadlock, this painting boot camp offers a comprehensive introduction to acrylic and oil painting. We’ll familiarize you with basic materials and techniques and work with you to develop a confident approach to light, color, and texture. At the intersection of contemporary and classical approaches, you’ll learn to switch fluidly between rapid layering of color in acrylic and nuanced application of color in oil—ultimately combining both media to create your own expressive style. The bootcamp offers a solid and inspiring introduction to the world of painting in a professional studio atmosphere right in Frankfurt’s Bockenheim district.

April 24–25 (Sat–Sun) 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.

7 hours per day (including a 1-hour lunch break)—6 effective hours of instruction daily, for a total of 12 hours.

What to Expect

Develop a confident painting technique in acrylic and oil through precise color control, layering strategies, and a solid understanding of the materials and their properties. Explore textures, opacity, and color transitions, and learn when and how to use each medium to its fullest potential. Step by step, you’ll create works that combine dynamism, depth, and expression.

• Day 1: Introduction to acrylic and oil painting, materials science, texture, light & shadow, and color exercises.
• Day 2: Practical application using a figurative subject and creation of a finished artwork.

By the end of the workshop, you will have mastered the confident use of acrylics and oils and will be able to combine both media to create a harmonious, expressive result.
