After many years on the mainland, Hein returns to his hometown—the
only village on a remote island, shaped by the rough tides of the
North Sea. To his surprise, the close-knit village
does not recognize him. Even his childhood friend Friedemann turns
turns his back on him.
To bring the truth to light, the community convenes a village court to
is supposed to determine whether Hein really is who he claims to be. But as the
trial, the contradictions pile up. Hein’s memories of his youth
differ greatly from the witnesses’ testimonies. With each day of the trial,
his situation becomes more hopeless, and the mood in the village grows increasingly
hostility. On the brink of failure, Hein desperately sets out on a
search for evidence to prove the authenticity of his memories—and finds exactly
opposite.
