Astoria Artshow: Vienna Rewrites Art History

Vienna’s gallery scene is on the rise. From September 10–13, 2026, the Astoria Artshow will open its doors at the iconic Astoria Garage, marking a turning point: 35 leading Viennese galleries have joined forces to form VAU—Vienna Art United—to create an international art fair of true stature.

Seventy galleries from Austria and around the world will showcase their best works, featuring established names and promising newcomers. Four curated sections spanning 8,000 square meters will showcase the current state of contemporary art. And the venue? An architectural masterpiece: the Astoria Garage from 1923, Europe’s first tower garage, with its spiral ramps and striking glass dome—industrial beauty serving as a stage for contemporary art.

This is more than just an art fair. It’s a project rooted in solidarity: Instead of paying by floor space, galleries pay according to their economic capacity—fairly, sustainably, and with an eye toward the future. A genuine response to the gaps in Vienna’s art scene. A statement: Vienna remains a city of art. And this time, the galleries themselves decide how.
