Anne Berest presents her new novel "Father's Days"
Sometimes it is easy to forget the extent to which historical events shape one's own family history. Anne Berest shows this entanglement of supposedly independent dimensions in her latest novel "Vatertage" (Berlin Verlag; translation: Michaela Meßner and Amelie Thoma). In it, she turns to her paternal family for the first time - after two successful books about her relationship with her mother. In doing so, she illustrates how her father Pierre's life is linked to the history of his Breton place of origin. She uses the reality of her own life and family to tell a very personal story about the founding of the first farmers' cooperative, the spring of 1968 and the AIDS pandemic.
Born in Paris in 1979, Anne Berest has worked as an actress and director. In 2010, she published her debut "Traurig bin ich schon lange nicht mehr" and subsequently made a name for herself in the French literary world.
