The Leipzig Municipal Libraries are an important part of Leipzig's cultural and educational landscape and centers for communication and information, reading promotion and education. In 2014, more than 1 million visitors borrowed 4.7 million media from the Leipzig Municipal Library, the 15 district libraries and the mobile library. http://stadtbibliothek.leipzig.de/unsere-bibliotheken/ The central tasks of the Leipzig Municipal Libraries are the acquisition, development, provision and communication of current media and information. Accordingly, the LSB support lifelong learning for sustainable participation in the knowledge society, promote reading and impart media competence. They provide comprehensive advisory and information services for the citizens and guests of Leipzig as well as the cultural, educational and social institutions of the city and independent sponsors as well as the groups and initiatives of cultural district work.
