At our monthly culture and media meeting in June, a few days before Cologne Pride, Axel Bach (journalist, BLSJ board member) will offer us a workshop on media coverage of lesbian, gay, bi, trans: queer life in addition to the meeting. This starts at 17:45 and ends at 19:45. The meeting continues as usual until 21:00.

Workshop: How the Cologne daily newspapers report on the CSD

The days of the worst journalistic gaffes in reports about queer people seem to be over. And that's a good thing, because the media still play an important role in breaking down prejudices.

But how far have media professionals in the "queer capital" of Cologne actually come? Do they still serve stereotypes and prejudices today?

At the culture and media meeting eleven days before the Cologne CSD 2026 demo, we will take a close look at the reports of the four Cologne daily newspapers on CSD 2025 under the expert guidance of Axel Bach (board member of the Bund Lesbischer und Schwuler JournalistInnen e.V.). Can queer people and the Cologne community be satisfied with this?

What wishes do we have for the (heterosexual) journalists for their coverage of this year's CSD?

Tip: two days before the event, Axel Bach will be giving a multimedia lecture entitled "Queer life in media coverage" at the Cologne VHS.
