UNHEARD: Cansu Arat & Lukas Brum

Turkish singer Cansu Arat and Brazilian guitarist Lucas Brum met during their studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts and have been playing together since 2024. The duo's pieces resonate with the inimitable mixture of lively lightness and melancholy that characterizes Brazilian music. Lucas Brum's own compositions may be deeply rooted in the sound tradition of his South American homeland, but they also reveal unknown facets.

For harmonically, rhythmically, melodically and lyrically, Cansu Arat and Lucas Brum go beyond the horizon of musica popular brasileira, even when they occasionally add classics by Chica Buarque or Antonio Carlos Jobim to material they have written themselves.

In this duo, the dialog between voices and guitar is virtuoso - but craftsmanship is not the main focus. This tandem, which is now releasing its first album, is all about emotionality, intimacy, depth and immediacy.

The Unheard series already celebrated successes at the Unterfahrt in 2019 and 2021 and is now being continued this year with eight concerts in Halle 4 at Einstein Kultur. Developed as a project with the JazzStiftung München and curated by Unterfahrt and mucjazz e.V., the program is dedicated to providing a forum for promising young musicians from various competitions (including the Munich Jazz Prize) and giving them the attention they have long deserved.
