Beatles, Kinks, Cream, Rolling Stones: the BBC was a prudish institution in the 1960s, because what was going on in youth and pop culture was kept secret. The time had come for the unofficial pirate radio stations, which delivered the sound of the sixties from ships to the living rooms of young people. Radio Rock, for example, on the other side of the three-mile zone, is run by Quentin, whose 18-year-old godson Carl is just starting out as a trainee and is plunged into the sex-drugs-rock'n'roll world of the free-spirited radio station. However, trouble is looming: the government wants to ban the barely legal pirate radio stations once and for all...
The fictional plot is based on Radio Caroline, which has significantly expanded the diversity of radio - and music - since it was founded in 1964.
