In August 1969, the heavily pregnant Sharon Tate and four other people were brutally murdered by members of the Manson family. Quentin Tarantino's film version of the events begins six months earlier: Rick Dalton, former star of a western TV series and neighbor of Roman Polanski and Sharon Tate, is working on his comeback. His stunt double/driver/boyfriend/girlfriend for everything Cliff Booth meets a hippie girl who belongs to the Manson family. And Sharon Tate watches a movie she was in at the cinema. The aspiring starlet at the beginning of her career, the washed-up actor fighting for his career, the small-time craftsman from the Hollywood machine room - and Tarantino's narrative art, which captures the ambivalent mood of the late sixties and, on the other hand, subjugates reality to the film, make this multi-layered, entertaining, frightening film one of the best of recent years.
