For a long time, Richard Wagner was convinced that he had to conquer Berlin as a composer in order to become famous. But in the Prussian and later imperial capital, influential circles were opposed to his person and his work. Significantly, the first Berlin performance of the "Ring" in 1881 did not take place in one of the major theaters, but in the Viktoria-Theater in the Spandauer Vorstadt.
