Psychic Liberation Night: Andrea Pensado + HMOT + bela

Psychic Liberation (PL) is a label founded in 2013 that was originally run by Miguel Alvariño under the name Primitive Languages as a cassette and record store project in New York City. Since 2019, it has been run solo by Nick Klein from the EU under the name Psychic Liberation. The concert series of the same name features a rotating lineup of guests. 

Andrea Pensado
Andrea Pensado is a sound artist, educator, and concert organizer. Pensado uses voice and hybrid electronics in her music. Both her programming and her performances are characterized by a highly intuitive approach. The interplay between the performance context, the irrational use of her voice, and the inherent unpredictability of improvisation repeatedly leads her to discover unknown realms of her own consciousness.

HMOT
Sattar Stas Shärifulla, also known as HMOT, is an artist, composer, and researcher based in Basel. In his artistic practice, he works with both traditional instruments and computer-based music technologies. His work encompasses performance, spatial sound, and mixed-media installations, composition in open forms, free improvisation, speculative sound fiction, soundwalks, and other experimental formats. His primary instrument is the Quray, a Bashkir transverse flute open at both ends, whose traditional sound he complements with electroacoustic techniques and extended playing methods.

In bela’s works, guttural vocals and feedback are used to create texture and resonance. Conceptually, bela’s artistic practice often adopts an autobiographical perspective that navigates personal experiences, origin, and transcendence. In this way, music and performance invite us to rethink and expand the positioning of sounds and bodies within social and cosmic contexts. The latest album and the performance of the same name, *Korean Love Sonnets*, are dedicated to an experimental exploration of the acoustics of the guttural voice in relation to other bodies and spaces.
