The focus is on Jaspert's book "Neokolonialer Kapitalismus. A History of Global Exploitation". Based on Marxist theory, economic history and internationalist analysis, Jaspert argues that #colonialism cannot be understood as a closed chapter of the past. Rather, colonial power relations continue to shape global monetary systems, debt regimes and the unequal relations between the Global North and South. The book combines theoretical approaches with a comprehensible historical classification and at the same time asks what perspectives today's struggles against exploitation and dependency open up.
The reading will alternate with a discussion between Robin Jaspert and Malina Stutz, political consultant at erlassjahr.de. She will present current developments from the #Schuldenreport2026, which examines the burden of foreign public debt on national budgets.
Together, they will discuss the role that debt, financial markets and geopolitical power shifts play in the current world order - and whether the emergence of a multipolar world offers opportunities to break down the deeply entrenched hierarchies between North and South.
