Jazzclub Live: Reznichenko/Gropper/Haberl
In the organizer's words:
Olga Reznichenko, Andi Haberl and Philipp Gropper create vast sonic spaces - sometimes pulsating and eruptive, sometimes hypnotic and groovy. No wonder with a line-up that brings three of the most distinguished musicians on the European jazz and improvisation scene to the stage.
Keytar, trigger drums, tenor saxophone: what initially appears to be a rather unusual line-up in a jazz context can, on closer inspection, be understood as an implicit reminiscence of the spirit of the great Krautrock era of the 1970s. At that time, the energy of classic rock music culminated with the experimental spirit of free jazz to create a hitherto unheard sound.
50 years later, the Reznichenko/Gropper/Haberl trio picks up where bands like Can, Embryo or Neu! once began. This is also reflected in the fact that a central band leader is not discernible. Rather, the open sound thrives on the interplay of ideas and impulses that the three musicians continuously pass on to each other in a reciprocal manner.
This creates wide sound spaces - sometimes pulsating and eruptive, sometimes hypnotic and groovy. With pianist Olga Reznichenko, recently awarded the SWR Jazz Prize and the German Jazz Prize, Andi Haberl, drummer of The Notwist - one of the most influential German indie bands of the past decades - and Philipp Gropper, whose playing, according to Jazzthing, has such an "original, archaic and urgent 'cry'" that it "directly touches the soul", three of the most distinguished musicians of the younger European jazz scene come together.
