Göttinnen und Heroinen in antiken Bildern

This Sunday tour is dedicated to representations of women in Greek mythology. Together we will follow in the footsteps of famous women - from powerful goddesses such as Athena and Artemis to legendary Amazons. The stories associated with them deal with power and self-determination and have been handed down in numerous works of art from antiquity.

Why are owls carried to Athens and what does the Amazon have to do with Greek mythology? Using selected objects from the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Antiquities at Leipzig University, we will trace these narratives and pictorial motifs and discover their diverse manifestations together.
