Guided nature hike in the Biesenthal Basin (Brandenburg)

This guided day hike is aimed at nature observers and hiking enthusiasts who want to discover the Berlin region off the beaten track. The Biesenthal Basin is part of the Barnim Nature Park and is considered one of the most ecologically valuable and structurally rich areas in the region.

The experience and the route

• Ice age diversity: The 15-kilometre circular route leads through a mosaic of sparse forests, near-natural streams, wet meadows, moors and dry sand ridges. The vegetation changes drastically over short distances.

• Knowledge transfer: In addition to the pure hike, the focus is on training the eye for the species-rich flora and fauna, information on the geological formation and historical use as well as the identification of native wild herbs and woody plants.

• Procedure: The tour is designed to be relaxed. There is plenty of time for expert explanations, photo stops, picnic breaks and - depending on the season - an optional swim.

Requirements and preparation

• Fitness level: The route is easily manageable for experienced walkers, but requires a solid basic fitness level for a 15-kilometer distance.

• Equipment: As the paths are natural and may have wet or muddy sections depending on the weather, sturdy footwear (hiking boots) and weather-appropriate clothing are required.

• Catering: You must bring your own food and drink for the breaks (self-catering).

Organizational details

• Total duration: Approx. 7 hours (including breaks).

• Meeting point & start: 10:30 am at the bus stop Rüdnitz Dorf (also end point).

• Travel options:

  • Direct: By car or regional train RB24 from Berlin to Rüdnitz station (from there approx. 850 meters on foot to the starting point).

  • Group: Continue together from Bernau S-Bahn station by bus 896 or the RB24 to Rüdnitz. Note: The information in the invitation to tender contains a logical error regarding the times (meeting point Bernau is given as 10:45 am, but the departure times of the lines are given as shortly after 10:00 am). This should be clarified in advance with the organizer.
