The "KUNSTPREIS HANNES MALTE MAHLER - it is art®" is awarded every four years by the non-profit organization feinkunst e.V. in cooperation with the Sprengel Museum Hannover. The winner in 2026 is Farzane Vaziritabar (*1987 in Yazd, Iran). Her multi-layered award-winning project "Colorful Threads" comprises exhibitions, interventions, performances, installations, sculptures, drawings and cartoons. It spans four exhibition venues in the city of Hanover and includes 36 performances in public spaces. Under the exhibition title "Colorful Threads. From Line to Action", the Sprengel Museum Hannover will become a central station of her artistic work.
With her concept, Vaziritabar takes up Hanover's well-known "Red Thread" - the tour of the city's sights - and reinterprets it through a variety of artistic, media and performative interventions. Her planned activities at a total of 38 locations range from sound works and performances to installations, sculptures, video works and interactive elements. She thus opens up a broad field of current artistic forms of expression and at the same time addresses socially relevant issues, in particular questions of fluid identities. The playful, humorous approach that characterizes her work shows a productive proximity to Hannes Malte Mahler's artistic self-image - without imitating him.
