Music at the pinnacle of performance

"His Scarlatti is clean, polished and elegant", was the verdict of the music magazine "Fanfare" on the pianist Emanuil Ivanov, who has dedicated an entire album to the Italian composer's sonatas. With a clear conception of sound and the artistic assurance of an experienced performer, the winner of the prestigious Busoni Competition devotes himself to the lively miniatures and finely brings out the individual character of each sonata. In his program, Ivanov sheds light on the pedagogical side of Domenico Scarlatti. Most of the 555 sonatas were written for his aristocratic pupils at the Spanish court - as a combination of playful virtuosity and musical depth. Different national styles, melodies from Italy, Spain and Portugal as well as techniques that were new at the time, such as crossing the hands, testify to Scarlatti's sparkling imagination and versatility.
