Science teacher Ryland Grace (RYAN GOSLING) wakes up one day on a spaceship—light-years from home and with no memory of who he is or how he got there. As his memory gradually returns, he discovers his mission: to solve the mystery of a mysterious substance that is causing the sun to go out. To save everything and everyone on Earth from extinction, he must draw on his scientific expertise and some unorthodox ideas. Along the way, an unexpected friendship means he might not have to do all this entirely on his own…
