'Cafe Death' mit Alona Karavai

In the organizer's words:

The Death Cafe is an open format and a network of self-organized, non-commercial meetings where people come together to eat cake, drink tea and talk about death. These are collective discussions based on personal questions, not theoretical debates or professional grief counseling. Alona Karavai has been moderating this format in various Ukrainian cities since summer 2025 as part of the School of Death program. The idea behind it is to make diverse forms of mourning visible and to talk about death as an act of both remembrance and vitality.

Alona Karavai is a cultural manager and curator from Ukraine. She is a co-founder of the project space Asortymentna Kimnata in Ivano-Frankivsk and the art medium post impreza. She worked at the Izolyatsia Center for Contemporary Art when it was still based in Donetsk, until she was forced to flee. After the forced relocation, she co-founded several artistic initiatives, including the School of Contemporary Art fra fra fra, which deals with emergency residencies and programs for refugee artists and artists with war experience in Ukraine. She lives in Kyiv and works on the themes of periphery, absence, vitality and death.
