Burnt Friedman pres. Secret Rhythms

With “Secret Rhythms,” Burnt Friedman brings a program of rarely or never-before-heard, odd-meter grooves and sequences to silent green, arranged live using a synthesizer and mixing console and distributed throughout the space via a multichannel sound system. 

The starting point is rhythm not as a style or cultural reference, but as a physically perceptible movement. This allows supposedly complex, cyclical patterns to be experienced as natural, harmonious relationships. This approach to rhythm was developed by Can drummer Jaki Liebezeit, with whom Friedman collaborated for 17 years. This laid the groundwork for creating music that transcends cultural idioms and opens up a trance-like, expansive soundscape.
