One of the biggest movie stars ever was born on June 1, 1926: Marilyn Monroe presented her sensational sexual charisma with the innocence of a child and thus became the dream woman of the 1950s - and far beyond. However, she never wanted to be seen as a mere sex symbol, but as an actress. With five films, we show the range of her performing art.

In the run-up to the coronation celebrations of George V in London in 1911, Grand Duke Charles, Prince Regent of the Balkan Empire of Carpathia, meets the dancer Elsie. He invites her to his apartments. She does not succumb to the widowed aristocrat's advances, but does fall in love. With her disarming nonchalance, she not only becomes the Queen Mother's maid, but is also able to nip a Carpathian revolution in the bud and convince Charles to introduce democracy.
Marilyn Monroe produced this film herself: a romantic comedy set against the political and diplomatic turmoil before the First World War. Monroe and director and co-star Laurence Olivier had a legendary falling out, but she plays one of her best roles here.
