Weil der Frieden Zucker ist! oder: Was für ein kleines Moped mit verchromter Lenkstange steht dort im Hof
In the organizer's words:
by Georges Perec
Directed by Anita Vulesica
Together with his friends, Pollak Henri (the owner of the little moped with the chrome handlebars) tries to save his friend Kara—what was his name again?—who is subject to conscription, from being sent to Algeria. There’s a war going on in Algeria—a dirty colonial war, at that—and the aforementioned Karadingsbums has absolutely no desire to play the hero there. War, everyone agrees, is no picnic; it might even be a crime. So the goal is to thwart the military’s plans—at least in this one case—and save Karadingsbums from the war. The Parisian clique—intellectuals and bon vivants, all of them—are, unfortunately, more adept at philosophizing and debating than at simple matters of practical solidarity…
Georges Perec’s text is undoubtedly the funniest and most anarchic defense of pacifism and the individual’s right against a militarized state in literary history. It is being staged for the first time by Anita Vulesica, whose production “The Machine, or: Above All Peaks There Is Peace”—also based on a text by Georges Perec—was invited to the Theatertreffen in 2025, received the 3sat Prize, and was honored with the NESTROY Award for Best Production in the German-speaking world.
