Vortrag „MZ/MuZ und mein Beitrag zum Endurosport“
In the organizer's words:
Due to high demand, this is a repeat of the lecture held on April 9, 2026.
The Zschopau-based global brand MZ had—and still has—many fans. Bernd Baumgartl, a graduate engineer, played a pivotal role in the company’s development.
He spent his apprenticeship with the Saxon motorcycle manufacturer. After studying automotive engineering, he worked as a development engineer specializing in noise and emissions measurements. Starting in 1982, he became the plant’s chief designer and was thus responsible for the ETZ models and test engines developed during the later GDR era. After the political transition, Bernd Baumgartl also took over as head of the purchasing department at the manufacturer—now known as MuZ—until 1996.
He also made a significant contribution to off-road racing, which was a defining feature of MZ; from 1977 to 1990, he headed the enduro section at the MZ Motorsport Club.
In his presentation, Bernd Baumgartel will share his insider knowledge of this exciting era of the iconic Saxon brand MZ.
