Mads Mikkelsen plays a gentle kindergarten teacher in a small Danish town whose life is shattered after his best friend’s young daughter falsely accuses him of sexual abuse. Thomas Vinterberg, co-founder of the Dogma 95 movement, convincingly shows how suspicion quickly turns into certainty in a tightly knit community. The film raises uncomfortable questions without discrediting the children’s perspective or one-sidedly condemning the institutions. Mikkelsen won the Best Actor award at Cannes for his performance.
