Species (französische OmeU) // 40. Fantasy Filmfest // Deutschlandpremiere

In the organizer's words:

This film is part of our FRESH BLOOD& FEAR GOOD section.

Species

In her first job at a hospital, young medical intern Margot not only encounters patients undergoing a strange mutation, but also discovers these changes in herself. The hospital, whose hallways feature a striking number of deep red tones alongside the usual antiseptic blue, becomes a testing ground between the pressure to perform and the unbearable pain of her transformation.

SPECIES begins like a French take on ANATOMY, but soon escalates into a scenario so brutal and yet so absurd that Marion Le Corroller has already secured a firm place for herself—alongside Julia Ducournau, Coralie Fargeat, and Hanna Bergholm. A critical, at times satirical look at our performance-driven society and the supposedly effeminate younger generation, combined with unique new visual worlds.

Young medical intern Margot encounters more than just patients undergoing a strange mutation during her first job at a hospital—she soon discovers the changes happening to her own body as well. The clinic, whose corridors are filled with strikingly deep reds alongside the familiar antiseptic blue, becomes a test of endurance as she struggles with performance pressure and the unbearable pain of her transformation.

SPECIES begins like a French take on ANATOMY, but soon escalates into a scenario so brutal and absurd that, with her debut feature, Marion Le Corroller has already earned herself a firm place alongside Julia Ducournau, Coralie Fargeat, and Hanna Bergholm in the tradition of female body-horror filmmakers. A critical, at times satirical look at our performance-driven society and its supposedly soft young generation, combined with unique new visual worlds.
