The Birthday Party
A deceptively golden summer day dawns in the French countryside. Nora, who lives a modest life with her husband Tom and their rebellious young daughter Ida, is celebrating her 40th birthday. They’re planning a small party after work. Neighbor Cristina (Monica Bellucci) has already begun making preparations when suddenly an intrusive stranger appears at the door. Together with his brother and armed with a knife, the men force their way into the house. They claim they need to wait for Franck (Benoît Magimel) first. When Franck finally shows up, he seems to know everything there is to know about Nora’s family. But what is his plan?
In her third directorial effort, Léa Mysius (THE FIVE DEVILS) delivers a gripping home-invasion thriller whose sharp visuals and menacing soundtrack foreshadow disaster from the very first moment, long before the story takes a dark turn.
