silent green Open Lab #8: aiel + Xingqi Liu
In the organizer's words:
silent green presents
Following a successful first edition in 2025, we are pleased to continue the silent green Open Lab—a platform for Berlin-based musicians and performance artists taking their first steps on stage.
aiel
aiel is the left-field ambient music project of Berlin-based Greek artist Ellis Papadaki. Her influences span experimental and left-field electronic music, blending unique ambient sound designs with pop-inspired arrangements and hazy guitar loops. Her most recent release features the ethereal sound of*Owing(2026)* on the Paris-based label Dalf Records, while additional sets and releases have been played on radio stations such as NTS, radio.syg.ma, Kiosk Radio, and Test FM. Her storytelling explores themes such as healing and self-reflection, posing the elusive question of what it means to be human in a post-industrial metaverse. Her current project is based on a 40-minute live performance that unfolds as an atmosphere of sound and text and revolves around her unreleased album*Matters of the Heart*. Together with her bandmates Edoardo Micheli (guitar) and Germaine Png (drums), aiel presents a musical cycle of tracks created during periods of snowfall and heavily inspired by the work of Hideaki Anno. Drawing on genres such as ambient, shoegaze, and left-field club music, the sound prioritizes intimacy and immersion over clarity and presentation—an invitation into an emotional soundscape full of transitions and states of limbo.
Xingqi Liu
Trigger Warning:The Unresolvedis an experimental live project in which Xingqi Liu combines sound and performance. At the same time, it is her artistic response to her own experiences, to the recent cases of Chinese women being raped in Germany while under the influence of drugs, and to the everyday dangers women face in a misogynistic society. Using condoms, a judge’s gavel, sampled voices, and electronic sounds, she explores anger, resistance, accusation, doubt, and a sense of powerlessness. The performance may change with each presentation and may include moments of audience participation. In doing so, she explores the space between the stage and reality.
