The Swingin’ Hermlins: The Music Goes Round And Around

And so The Swingin’ Hermlins embody the authentic sound and look of the 1930s. Swing was the music of the Great Depression in the 1930s. Desperate people listened to it because it gave them hope. During the pandemic, from March 2020 to May 2022, Andrej Hermlin and his bandmates performed a half-hour concert live online every evening at 7 p.m., in rotating small ensembles, with friends and musicians who love Benny Goodman, Basie, or Miller, or Lunceford. The band plays—with the exception of the vocals—unamplified, as was customary back then. Costumes, music stands, microphones, and instruments are either originals or perfect replicas. Thousands of people worldwide now follow their (no longer regular) broadcasts on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.
