ORRY MITTENMAYER »AUSGELIEFERT«
In the organizer's words:
Once again this year, the Cultural Office is pleased to participate in the “Action Weeks Against Exclusion and Discrimination” program. Three different readings will offer thought-provoking insights into socially relevant topics—by those affected, for those affected, and for anyone else who would like to learn more and get involved. Exchange of ideas, personal accounts, and discussion are not only encouraged but expressly welcomed.
Finally, on September 19, we’ll welcome Orry Mittenmayer, who will be presenting his book “Ausgeliefert: How Delivery Services Exploit Their Drivers, Why This Makes Us All Poorer, and What We Can Do About It.” Exploitation, extremely poor working conditions, and discrimination characterize the delivery industry. Orry Mittenmayer shares his experiences as a person of color (PoC) with a hearing impairment, his time at a special education school, how he earned his high school diploma later in life, and his subsequent college studies. He highlights how exploitation and structural inequality are interconnected and why this is dangerous for society. At the same time, he makes it clear that there are ways to resist and how important labor struggles are (also) for democracy!
The reading is organized by the Bildungsgemeinschaft Arbeit und Leben Bremerhaven e. V. and the ADA project—Anti-Discrimination in the Workplace.
Free admission. Please register at veranstaltungen@kulturbuero-bremen-nord.de or through our ticket shop.
